Auckland Men’s Tennis 2012

The 2012 Auckland Open tennis tournament is the biggest men’s sporting event held in New Zealand each year. The official name for the Auckland Open due to title sponsor naming rights is the Heineken Open. Auckland is one of two ATP 250 events held in the week before the Australian Open commences, so serves as the final preparation for the top men aiming to peak in the first Grand Slam event of the 2o12 season.

The Auckland Open is being held at the ASB Tennis Centre in the Parnell District of Auckland in New Zealand on blue Plexicushion hard courts. The centre court holds 3,500 spectators, the total financial commitment for 2012 is $450,000 and this tournament was first held in 1956.

This tournament is a men’s tournament classified an ATP World Tour 250 event. Auckland runs from Saturday 7 January through to the Men’s Singles Finals day on Saturday 14 January.

The 2011 men’s singles champion was David FERRER who defeated David Nalbandian in the final 6-3, 6-2 and went on to make the Australian Open semi finals and have the best year if his career in 2011.
