Charleston 2012 Women’s Singles Draw: 1st Round

The 2012 Charleston Open women’s main draw singles 1st round matches will begin on Monday 2 April at 10am local time at the Family Circle Cup Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina in the USA. Charleston is one of only six WTA Premier 700 category tournaments each year and has 56 players vying for the title, a maximum of 470 WTA ranking points and $115,000 US dollars in prize money for the winner.

Charleston has a 64-draw divided up between 56 players: 12 Qualifiers (Q), 4 Wild Cards (WC), 40 Direct Acceptances and 8 BYES. The Top 16 ranked players amongst the 40 Direct Acceptances become the seeds and only the Top 8 seeds have a BYE in the 1st round. The 16 seeds were ranked from World No.4 (Agnieszka RADWANSKA) through to No.45 (Jarmila GAJDOSOVA). Update: The No.1 seed withdrew after winning Miami and a 17th seed was added (Marina ERAKOVIC) so the draw below has been revised, this also makes way for an additional spot that goes to a lucky loser (LL).
