The 2013 Charleston Open is one of twelve WTA Premier category tennis tournaments this year for the 41st edition of this tournament. Charleston is officially named the Family Circle Cup. After being founded as Charles Towne in 1670 (honouring King Charles II of England), changed name to Charleston in 1783.

Charleston is in South Carolina USA and is being held at the Family Circle Tennis Centre, Daniel Island. The court surface is green clay and the stadium court seats 10,200 people. The prize money that will be awarded to the women’s singles champion is US$115,000. 

Charleston runs from the first day of qualifying on Saturday 30 March through to the Women’s Singles Final day on Sunday 8 April.

The 2012 women’s singles champion was No.5 seed Serena WILLIAMS who defeated No.9 seed Lucie SAFAROVA in the final 6-0 6-1 to win her second Charleston singles title from her past two attempts, last playing in 2008 and earn 470 WTA ranking points.
