The 2011 Dubai Open Men’s singles champion was No.2 seed Novak DJOKOVIC who defeated No.1 seed and 4-time Dubai champion Roger Federer in the final 6-3, 6-3 for a third straight Dubai title. The 1.88m Djokovic is pictured above playing his greatly improved forehand as he is on the run to his right at the 2011 Dubai Open. The current World No.1 has now won 29 ATP Tour singles titles after winning a career-high 10 titles in one year in 2011.

The 24-year-old Djokovic will be playing Dubai for the 6th straight year heads in with a 15-0 winning streak and an 18-2 Dubai Open record. The Serbian has defeated Federer in the past two Grand Slams at the semi final stage. The 5-time Grand Slam singles champion first achieved the World No.1 ranking on 4 July 2011. Djokovic will be joined by 7 of the Top 10 ATP men, including potential re-matches with Andy Murray and Roger Federer that always seem to be amazing matches.

Please note that the tournament management can alter the schedule from day to day.

The ATP ranking points and prize money for the men’s tournament is awarded to the players like this:

  1. The winner earns 500 points + $409,170;
  2. The runner-up earns 300 points + $184,470;
  3. The two semi finalists earn 180 points + $87,380;
  4. The four quarter finalists earn 90 points + $42,165;
  5. The 8 players who lose in the round of 16 earn 45 points + $21,500;
  6. The *players who lose in the 1st round receive $11,825 but DO NOT earn any ranking points.

There is a 16-player qualifying draw. The players who lose in the 1st round of the qualifying event earn $735 and DO NOT receive any ranking points. The players who lose in the 2nd and final round of qualifying earn $1,330 and 10 ranking points.

*The players who qualify for the main draw and then lose the 1st round earn 20 points, whereas players, who start in the 1st round and lose their 1st match, do not earn a point. Wild Card entrants who lose in the 1st round DO NOT receive any ranking points.

From the round of 16 onwards any qualifiers who win, earn the points allocated by round PLUS their 20 points for qualifying. Therefore, a qualifier who wins the 1st round of the main draw and then gets knocked out in the round of 16 earns 45 points for making the round of 16 plus 20 points for qualifying. Thus, a qualifier who loses in the round of 16 has earns 65 ranking points in total.

  2. Hi Frederick,

    Firstly, thank you so much for visiting and commenting on OnCourt Advantage. You are very lucky! I would LOVE to go to the tennis every day at the Dubai Open. There is an amazing line up with 8 of the Top 10 men competing.

    This tournament REALLY makes a huge effort to provide as much value for the spectators as it can by providing so much entertainment off-court in the Tennis Village, running numerous giveaway competitions and tennis participation/clinics etc. Have a great time and report back with how you enjoyed the tennis and anything you can share to give us a feeling what it was like to really be there!

  3. Hi Gill,

    Firstly, thank you so much for visiting and commenting on OnCourt Advantage. I will certainly update everyone by posting every single daily schedule of play for the Men’s Singles event at the Dubai Open.

    The schedule for each day is only released in the evening before that’s day’s play or very early in the morning. I receive the media release email each day as soon as the daily schedule of play is released. As soon as possible after receiving these emails I post them here OnCourt Advantage.

    To get an idea for exactly how long these daily schedules are released, please look at this article about the Dubai Open women’s singles event, in the comments section. I have listed the daily schedule for Wednesday to Saturday. The times I have published these comments are the exact times I received these emails and not the time I actually published them.

    Please click here to see what I mean->

    I hope this helps and please let me know if you would like to know anything further.
