The 2011 Memphis Open women’s main draw singles matches will begin on Monday 14 February at 11am local time. There are 32 main draw spots divided up between 4 Qualifiers (Q), 3 Wild Cards (WC) and 25 Direct Acceptances. Memphis is WTA International category tournament played from February 11-19.
The total prize money for the 2011 Memphis tournament is $220,000 US dollars. The centre court has a seating capacity of 5,000 and is called the Morgan Keegan Stadium Court. The official tournament name is Cellular South Cup and the last direct acceptance into the draw was Michaella KRAJICEK of the Netherlands who was ranked No.145 at the cut-off date. Memphis is played on indoor Plexipave hard courts and is held at The Racquet Club of Memphis in Tennessee, USA.

The Seeds: In a 32-player sized draw there are 8 seeded players. This means that all of the 8 seeds are separated in the draw so they play two rounds against lower ranked opponents who are unseeded, before they can meet another seed in the quarter finals. The seeding for the Memphis Open is allocated according to the latest WTA rankings before the draw is made. These latest rankings were released on Monday 7 February.
The 2011 Memphis Open women’s singles seeds are:
1-Barbora ZAHLAVOVA STRYCOVA, 2-Sofia ARVIDSSON, 3-Melanie OUDIN, 4-Alla KUDRYAVTSEVA, 5-Olga GOVORTSOVA, 6-Rebecca MARINO, 7-Renata VORACOVA and 8-Vania KING.
If a seeded players withdraws during the next few days before taking the court for their 1st round match OnCourt Advantage will update you of any new developments amongst the seeded players straight away. That seed would be replaced by the next highest ranked direct acceptance i.e. Evgeniya RODINA.
Update: Direct acceptance Alison Riske withdrew with an illness and was replaced by Lucky Loser (LL) Alexandra Stevenson of the USA.
The Wild Cards: The 3 wild cards were awarded to Americans Beatrice CAPRA and Catherine HARRISON plus 17-year-old Croatian Ajla TOMLJANOVIC.
The Qualifiers: The 32-player qualifying tournament begins on Friday 11 February and concludes on Sunday 13 February. As soon as the qualifying event is complete OnCourt Advantage will add the names of the 4 qualifiers into their allocated spots in the draw below and list their names right here-> Alexa GLATCH, Stephanie FORETZ GACON, Heather WATSON and Anna-Lena GROENEFELD.
Pictured above is Anne Keothavong of Great Britain well after making contact with the ball for this double-handed backhand. The 27-year-old made it to the semi finals in Memphis last year before losing 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 to Sofia Arvidsson.
The 1.75m Keothavong is Britain’s No.2 ranked female. Her best Grand Slam singles result to date was making the 3rd round of the 2008 US Open. Her current ranking is No.90 and she achieved her career-high ranking of No.48 on 23 February 2009.
