The 2012 Morocco Open is the only WTA tennis tournament in Africa each year and one of 30 WTA International category tournaments each year.
The official name of Morocco is the Grand Prix de SAR Princesse Lalla Meryem because it refers to the Princess Lalla Meryem, the sister of Mohammed VI, King of Morocco.

The 2012 tournament is being held at the Royal Tennis Club de Fes in Fes, Morocco. Since 2007 this tournament has been held in Fes prior to that it was held in Rabat fir 2005 and 2006 and it originally was played in Casablanca from 2001 to 2004.
This tournament runs from Saturday 21 April to Sunday 29 April. The women’s singles qualifying event is being held on Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22. The main draw singles event runs from Monday 23 April through to the Women’s Singles Final day on Sunday 29 April.
The 2011 women’s singles champion was the unseeded Alberta BRIANTI who defeated No.7 seed Simona HALEP in the final 6-4, 6-3 to win her first WTA singles title.
