The Seeds: In a 32-player sized draw there are 8 seeded players. This means that all of the 8 seeds are separated in the draw so they play two rounds against lower ranked opponents who are unseeded, before they can meet another seed in the quarter finals. The seeding for the SAP Open is allocated according to the latest ATP rankings before the draw is made. These latest rankings will be released on Monday 6 February and at the moment the seeding would be as listed below.

The 2012 SAP Open men’s singles seeds are:

1-Gael MONFILS, 2-Andy RODDICK, 3-Milos RAONIC, 4-Kevin ANDERSON, 5-Radek STEPANEK, 6-Julien BENNTEAU, 7-Donald YOUNG and 8-Olivier ROCHUS.

If any of the seeded players withdraw during the next few days before taking the court for their 1st round match I will update the seeded players list above straight away. That seed would be replaced by the next highest ranked direct acceptance i.e. Denis ISTOMIN who would become the No.8 seed.

The Wild Cards: The wild cards are chosen by Tournament Director Bill Rapp. The wild cards were awarded to three Americans: 19-year-old Jack SOCK (the 1.85m Sock won the 2010 US Open junior singles title) who is currently ranked No.321, 22-year-old Californian Steve JOHNSON who is currently ranked at No.365 and 29-year-old Robby GINEPRI who is currently ranked No.249. The 1.83m Ginepri achieved a career-high ranking of No.15 on 26 December 2005 after his best performance in a Grand Slam singles event at the US Open that year. Ginepri made the semi finals before losing to Andre Agassi in 5 sets.

The Qualifiers: The 28-player qualifying tournament begins on Saturday 11 February and concludes on Sunday 12 February. As soon as each of the four players win their 3rd or final round of qualifying to qualify for the main draw OnCourt Advantage will add their names right here-> Dimitar KUTROVSKY, Dennis LAJOLA, Tim SMYCZEK and Denis KUDLA.

The 2011 SAP Open Men’s singles semi finalist Gael MONFILS is pictured above during the 2011 event looking relaxed yet focused, which is when he plays his best tennis. The 25-year-old Monfils will be the No.1 seed for the 2012 SAP Open indoor hard court event and is currently ranked at No.13 after achieving is career high to date of No.7 on 4 July 2011.

The 1.93m Frenchman is expected by many to be the man to break the Grand Slam singles drought for France dating back to 1983 when Yannick Noah won Roland Garros. Monfils has won 4 ATP Tour singles titles with the past three all on indoor hard courts, just as his two biggest finals to date were on indoor hard courts at the 2010 and 2011 Paris Open ATP Masters 1000 event.

Monfils has performed best at Roland Garros in Grand Slam events were he has made the quarter finals in three of the past four years with his career best semi final result in 2008. Monfils was the year-end World No.1 junior in 2004 after winning three of the four junior Grand Slam singles titles in 2004, the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
