Men’s Singles Results:

The 3rd round of the Australian Open men’s singles championships is now set. After the first two rounds are played only 32 players remain. This is the earliest stage of the tournament the seeded players can commence playing against each other.

Only 6 of the matches from the 16 possible matches where seeds were drawn to battle it court against each other survived. 10 lower ranked men who are unseeded won through at the expense of 10 of the seeds, the highest of which were (8) Robin Soderling, (13) Radek Stepanek and (16) Tommy Robredo.

Pictured above is 24 year old Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus preparing to play his double handed backhand drive. Baghdatis thrives on hard courts. He achieved a career high ranking of No.8 in 2006, which was the year that he was the runner-up in the Australian Open Men’s Singles.

Baghdatis took out the highest seed of the defeated seeds in the 2nd round. He plays Lleyton Hewitt next and for the 2nd week in a row. Last week Baghdatis won the Sydney ATP World Tour 250 event beating Hewitt in the quarter finals. A repeat performance may give him a chance to avenge his loss to Roger Federer in the 2006 Australian Open final.

Below you will find the  seeded players whose names have a line drawn through them because they were defeated in that section of the draw. The number in brackets is that player’s seeding. A “Q”in brackets means that player is qualifier.

The name that is bolded is OCA’s prediction of who will win.
