Roland Garros 2012 Women’s Singles Draw Seeding

The 2012 Roland Garros women’s singles draw begins on Sunday 27 and runs for 15 days making it one day longer than any of the other Grand Slam tournaments. In this post who the 2012 Roland Garros women’s seeds are, what country they represent and a full list of the 32 seeds in order from 1 to 32 will be covered.

In a 128-player sized draw there are 32 seeded players in order to keep the one seed for each four spots in the draw ratio according to tournament draw rules. All of the 32 seeds are placed in preselected positions in the 128-player draw to guarantee that all seeds cannot meet another seed until the 3rd round. Therefore, the seeded players have the advantage of only playing against players in their first two rounds that are lower ranked players and outside of the highest 32 ranked players in the draw.

The 32 seeds for Roland Garros are the highest 32 ranked players in order from 1 to 32 according to the latest WTA women’s rankings available prior to the main draw being conducted. The draw ceremony will be held on Friday 25th of May. However, the seeds can be worked out before they are officially announced due to the fact that the seeds are selected solely according to the latest WTA rankings before the draw is made i.e. as of 21 May 2012.

The 32 seeds listed below are the seeds according to the 21st of May 2012. The first 16 players names are bolded because according to seeding they are seeded to be the 16 players who win through to the round of 16. The first eight players have both their first name and surname bolded to highlight the eight players seeded to make the quarter finals.

How many of the Top 16 seeds do YOU think will actually qualify this year? At Roland Garros in 2011 12 of the Top 16 seeded women won through to the round of 16 to live up to their seeding.

Updates: Original No.18 seed Daniela Hantuchova has withdrawn injured so No.33 Zheng Jie moves up to be the No.32 seed and the original No.19 to No.32 all move one spot in the seedings.
