Roland Garros 2013 Order of Play: Day 10

The 2013 Roland Garros singles events have two women’s and two men’s singles quarter final matches scheduled to be played here in Paris on Tuesday 4 June. Below OnCourt Advantage lists the order of play for the tenth day of main draw singles matches to make it easier for you to know who plays whom, when and on which court.

In the Men’s Singles (Simple Messieurs) one of the two matches showcase the expected seeded quarter final match up and the other the expected seed with only the remarkable No.32 seed Tommy Robredo winning through from outside the Top 8 seeds.

In the Women’s Singles (Simple Dames) one of the two matches showcase the expected seeded quarter final match up and the other the expected seed with only the unseeded former Roland Garros singles champion Svetlana Kuznetsova winning through from outside the Top 8 seeds.

The bottom half of the men’s draw will see the first two semi finalists decided with 2009 Roland Garros champion Roger Federer featuring against the No.1 Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The 28-year-old Tsonga equalled his best result at Roland Garros by making the quarter finals for the second straight year without dropping a set. The 2008 Australian Open runner-up knows he can beat the 31-year-old Federer in a Grand Slam quarter final even if he is two sets to love down, after doing it at Wimbledon in 2011.

Tsonga is set to provide a great showing with the hometown support, Federer coming off a 5-set win over Frenchman Gilles Simon and the burning desire to improve on last year’s Roland Garros quarter final loss after holding four match points against Novak Djokovic plus reverse the 2013 Australian Open quarter final loss to Federer.

The 17-time Grand Slam singles champion Roger Federer registered his 36th straight Grand Slam quarter final and 40th overall with his 900th tour-level singles win. The Swiss has won 33 of his 39 Grand Slam quarter finals and is striving to make his sixth Roland Garros final in the past eight years. A 59th Federer win at Roland Garros would give him the record number of singles victories at this tournament ahead of Guillermo Vilas and Nicola Pietrangeli on 58.

Pictured above is 31-year-old David Ferrer after making contact with the ball during his service motion in the second round. The 1.75m Ferrer holds a 35-9 record in 2013, has yet to drop a set in his first four matches and has made it to at least the quarter finals for the sixth straight time in Grand Slam tournaments.

Ferrer achieved his best result at Roland Garros in 2012 by making it to the semi finals. Today Ferrer will aim to promote the most physically demanding match possible seeing he is possibly the fittest player on the men’s tour and is super fresh versus the seemingly unparalleled reserves of the 31-year-old Tommy Robredo.

The 1.8m Robredo made his fifth Roland Garros quarter final by becoming the first man since Henri Cochet at Wimbledon in 1927 to win three straight Grand Slam matches after being two sets to love down. The Ambassador for Wheelchair tennis upset No.11 seed Nicolas Almagro to give himself a chance to earn his first Grand Slam semi final. The former World No.5 will continue to fight for every point in another battle against a fellow Spaniard, higher ranked and more fancied opponent in current World No.5 David Ferrer.

For the women it is the top half of the draw that will provide the first two semi finalists with 2002 Roland Garros champion Serena Williams up against 2009 Roland Garros champion Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kicking off at the same time is 2012 runner-up Sara Errani pitting her clay court prowess against the 2012 Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radawanka in her first Roland Garros quarter final.
