The 2010 US Open men’s 3rd round of the singles main draw is now complete. Of the 16 seeds that were seeded to win through to the round of 16 eight of them have been knocked out including the No.4 Andy Murray in the upset of the tournament so far by No.25 seed Stanislas Wawrinka.

The remaining 6 from the Top 10 seeds will be in action players over the next 2 days as they chase a place in the quarter finals. Now that Murray has been knocked Rafael Nadal is the only 1 of the Top 7 seeds left on his side of the draw, whereas Roger Federer has Novak Djokovic and Robin Soderling let in his side of the draw. Of the 8 round of 16 matches that could have featured the Top 16 seeds only 2 of those matches will be played according to seeding. No.2 seed Roger Federer versus No.13 Jurgen Melzer and No.8 Fernando Verdasco plays against No.10 David Ferrer.

Pictured above is 22 year old Sam Querrey of America captured right at the contact point between the ball and his racquet for this forehand drive at the 2010 Canadian Open.

The 1.98m No.20 seed Querrey has equalled his best result at the US Open by making the round of 16 as he did in 2008 before being defeated by Nadal. The current World No.22 will be hoping to get the better of Wawrinka this time in order to make his first Grand Slam quarter final. Wawrinka beat Querrey by 8 points 6 in the final set tie-break in their only meeting to date at the Indian Wells Open last year.

There were 4 Americans left in the 3rd round including wild card entrant James Blake and No.18 seed John Isner who were both defeated leaving No.19 seed Mardy Fish to join Querrey in the round of 16 as they both battle for quarter final spots against Djokovic and Wawrinka respectively.

OCA will keep you updated with all of the round of 16 results as matches are completed, right here on this post.
