After winning Wimbledon as a 17-year-old Maria SHARAPOVA made two straight semi finals (2005 and 2006). The 2011 Wimbledon final was her first time to the quarter finals or better since 2006. The 25-year-old Russian is pictured above setting the ball in place during her service action at Wimbledon in 2011. After winning the singles title at Roland Garros to complete her career Grand Slam set, the 1.88m Sharapova will be looking to win again where it first started, at Wimbledon, this time as the No.1 seed.
The Seeds: In a 128-player sized draw there are 32 seeded players in order to keep the one seed for each four spots in the draw ratio according to tournament draw rules. All of the 32 seeds are separated in the draw so they play two rounds against lower ranked opponents who are unseeded, before they can meet another seed in the 3rd round. The seeded players do not receive a BYE in the 1st round of a Grand Slam event. To win the title a player must win seven best of three set matches in a row.
