The 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals qualifier Tomas BERDYCH is pictured above in position to execute one his two biggest weapons, this forehand drive was played during the 2011 Cincinnati Open Masters. The 1.96m BERDYCH is currently ranked at No.7 in the ATP rankings and was drawn in Group A.
The 26-year-old is in the right frame of mind to perform leading into London. Yesterday he said, “I’m not thinking ‘do I need to be doing something different or not. If I bring my best game then I know every time I play [I can win]. When I was able to play my best tennis, I was able to beat all of those guys. I hope I can get to that level and then we’ll see what’s going to happen.”
BERDYCH has defeated all three of his opponents in his group in the past. He has two wins against David Ferrer, has beaten current World No.1 Novak Djokovic before in a BIG match (the 2010 Wimbledon semi finals and in 3-straight sets) where he also beat Roger Federer in the quarter finals. The right-hander from the Czech Republic has won the past 3 matches in a row against the No.3 seed in London Andy Murray, including last week at the Paris Open Masters. BERDYCH is pictured again below in the early stages of his service motion, which is the other major weapon in his game during the 2011 Cincinnati Open.
BERDYCH achieved a career-high ITF Junior singles ranking of No.6 on 6 January 2003. As is often the case, he foreshadowed where his best Grand Slam success would occur on the Pro Tour in the Junior Grand Slams. BERDYCH achieved his best result in a Junior Grand Slam singles event, by making the quarter finals at the 2003 Wimbledon ITF Junior tennis championships.
