The 2010 Canadian Open men’s main draw singles 1st round matches are now complete. The 2nd round matches are underway and are scheduled to be completed over 2 days. All of the top seeds will be in action as players compete for another major title on the ATP Tour and a spot in the 8-player ATP Tour Finals in London.

OCA will keep you updated with all of the 2nd round results as matches are completed, right here on this post. The matches numbered from No.1 to No.8 in the draw below are the matches from the top half of the draw, whilst matches No.9 to No.16 are the matches from the bottom half of the draw. 13 matches are scheduled for today, which will complete the 2nd round of singles matches after which, only 16 players will remain. All of these matches will be played on just 4 courts, Centre Court, Grandstand Court and Courts 1 and 3.

Lucky Loser Paul-Henri Mathieu of France was especially lucky because he replaced No.8 seed Andy Roddick. Roddick had a BYE so Mathieu rode a BYE into the 2nd round and instead of playing one of the seeded players for a spot in the round of 16, Mathieu plays qualifier Lu Yen-Hsun.

Pictured above is 23 year old Italian Fabio Fognini who is 1 of only 2 qualifiers to advance through to the 2nd round. Fognini next plays No.6 Nikolay Davydenko who needs to play lots of matches to hit his stride. Davydenko was out for 3 months with an injury and has not played a lot since coming back from injury. Fognini beat Davydenko the last time they played so has a great chance to upset the No.6 seed and progress through to the round of 16. Fognini’s best result in a Masters 1000 event is making the round of 16, which he achieved in this tournament in 2007 and at the Monte Carlo Open in 2009.

3 matches from the 2nd round were played yesterday with No.7 seed Tomas Berdych, No.5 seed Robin Soderling and No.3 seed Roger Federer all winning through to the round of 16. The player’s name that is bolded is OCA’s prediction of who will win each match. Any player whose name is italicised and has his first name removed is a seeded player who was expected to win through to the 2nd round.
