Please leave a comment below this article regarding anything YOU would like to know about in tennis, have explained or suggest for me to write about here at OnCourt AdvantageTo watch the tennis in Singapore you need to add 12 hours to the local time in Toronto to work out the equivalent Singapore time for the daily 2012 Canadian Open Order of Play.

The official tournament name is the the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank due to title sponsorship naming rights. As soon as it is drawn OnCourt Advantage will provide the names of the projected round of 16 match-ups for the seeds and post the full singles main draw here-> The 2012 Canadian Open Men’s Singles Draw: 1st Round. The 2012 men’s entire tournament schedule of play includes what rounds are played each day and at what time of day, how the the prize money and ranking points are allocated for each round plus further interesting event details.

The Seeds: In a 64-player sized draw there are 16 seeded players in order to keep the one seed for each four spots in the draw ratio according to tournament draw rules. Canada has a 56-player draw so only the Top 8 seeds all receive a BYE in the 1st round and await the 24 winners of the 1st round matches in the 2nd round. The seeds are selected according to the latest ATP rankings before the draw is made i.e. as of 30 July 2012. The Top 16 ranked players in the draw at that date become the Top 16 seeds.

The 2012 Canadian Open men’s singles seeds are:

  • Seeds 1-8: 1-Novak DJOKOVIC, 2-Andy MURRAY, 3-Jo-Wilfried TSONGA, 4-Tomas BERDYCH, 5-Janko TIPSAREVIC, 6-Juan Martin DEL POTRO, 7-Juan MONACO, 8-John ISNER;
  • Seeds 9-16: 9-Gilles SIMON, 10-Marin CILIC, 11-Mardy FISH, 12-Philipp KOHLSCHREIBER, 13-Kei NISHIKORI, 14-Richard GASQUET, 15-Florian MAYER and 16-Milos RAONIC.

If any of the seeded players withdraw before taking the court for their first match I will update the seeded players list above straight away. A seed that withdraws is replaced by the next highest ranked direct acceptance i.e. Alexandr DOLGOPOLOV as the World No.25. If any further seeds are unable to play this major tournament No.26 Radek STEPANEK becomes a seed, followed by No.27 Marcel GRANOLLERS.

The Wild Cards: All three wild cards went to the highest three ranked Canadians outside the direct acceptance cut-off ranking: current World No.87 Vasek POSPISIL, No.135 Frank DANCEVIC and No.155 Peter POLANSKY.

The Qualifiers: The 24-player qualifying tournament begins on Saturday 4 August and concludes on Sunday 5 August. As soon as each of the 7 players win their 2nd round of qualifying and therefore qualify for the main draw, OnCourt Advantage will add their names to the 2012 Canadian Open Men’s Singles Draw: 1st Round post.
