The 2011 Canadian Open is officially called the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank due to title sponsorship naming rights. Canada is a major tournament on the men and women’s professional tennis tours. For the men it is the sixth of the nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events and for the women it is the third of the five Premier FIVE tournaments this year.

Each year Canadian Open alternates on where it is held in Canada between Toronto and Montreal for the men and women’s events on Deco Turf hard courts. For then men the odd numbered years are played in Montreal and the even numbered years are played in Toronto. The Toronto centre court has a 10,300 seating capacity and the Montreal centre court has a 11,659 seating capacity. The 2011 total prize money for men is US$ 2,430,000 and for women is US$ 2,050,000.
This year the men are playing at the Rexall Centre at York University in Toronto and the women’s are playing in Montreal, Quebec at the Uniprix Stadium. This event was first held in 1881, after Wimbledon and the US Open it is the longest running tournament in tennis history.
This tournament is one of the “BIG 14″ MAJOR prestigious events and runs from Saturday 6 August through to Sunday 14 August. The 2010 women’s singles champion was Caroline WOZNAICKI who defeated Vera ZVONAREVA in the final 6-3, 6-2 to win US$ 350,000 and 900 WTA ranking points. The 2010 men’s singles champion was Andy MURRAY who defeated Roger FEDERER in the final 7-5, 7-5 to win US$ 443,500 and 1,000 ATP ranking points.
