The Indian Wells Open Women’s 3rd round is now complete. There have been a number of upsets with 7 of the Top 16 seeds eliminated including No.1 Svetlana Kuznetsova, No.3 Victoria Azarenka, No.7 Li Na, No.9 Flavia Pennetta, No.10 Maria Sharapova & No.14 Kim Clijsters.

The matches that you should try to see in the round of 16 of the 2010 BNP Paribas Open that could be the most fiercely competitive are defending champion Zvonareva v. Stosur, Rezai v. Dementieva, Molik v. Zheng and Petrova v. Wozniacki.

Australia’s Samantha Stosur is pictured above just after making contact with the ball with her single handed slice backhand ground stroke. If the 25 year old Stosur wins her round of 16 match that will make 4 wins in a row against Zvonareva and earn Stosur a Top 10 ranking for the first time.

The following is the draw for the women’s round of 16 matches. The number in brackets before a players name is their seeding. A “WC” in brackets before their name means that player is a Wild Card. The names that have a line drawn through them are the seeded players who were seeded to make it through to this round but have been upset by lower ranked players.

  • (1) Kuznetsova Carla Suarez Navarro versus (14) Clijsters (23) Alisa Kleybanova
  • (9) Pennetta (17) Shahar Peer v. (6) Jelena Jankovic
  • (3) Azarenka (28) MJ Martinez Sanchez v. (13) Yanina Wickmayer
