Madrid Open 2012 Results: Men

The 2012 Madrid Open is the second of the four ATP Tour “BIG 14” MAJOR tournaments played on clay courts in 2012. In this post the match results for each day will be continually added to this page throughout the entire tournament, to make it easier for you to know who is progressing through the draw and what the final scores were.

The Madrid Open full 2012 Women’s Schedule of Play and the full 2012 Men’s Schedule of Play contain all of the details for how the prize money and ranking points are allocated to the players for each round throughout the tournament. The 2012 Madrid Open Women’s Singles Draw and the Men’s Singles Draw posts contain many interesting details about how the draws work.

Please leave a comment below this article regarding anything YOU would like to know about in tennis, have explained or suggest for me to write about here at OnCourt AdvantageTo watch the tennis in Singapore you need to add 6 hours to the local time in Madrid to work out the equivalent Singapore time for this daily 2012 Madrid Open Order of Play.

The full list for the 2012 Madrid 1st Round Women’s Singles Draw and for the 2012 Madrid 1st Round Men’s Singles Draw also include who the seeds are, which seeds are drawn to play off against each other, plus who the wild cards and qualifiers are and who they play in the 1st round.

In the lists of results that will be featured below, all players except for the direct acceptances will have letters or a number in brackets in front of their names when they are a seeded player e.g. [1] for the No.1 seed, or a wild card entrant (WC) or a player who won through the qualifying tournament i.e. a qualifier (Q). The letters in brackets after each player’s name is the prefix for the country that player represents e.g. the local players have (ESP) added after their names because it is short for Espana or Spain.

The 2011 Madrid men’s singles quarter-finalist Michael LLODRA is pictured above at the 2011 Monte Carlo Open preparing to make contact with the ball for this single-handed slice backhand ground stroke. The 1.9m Llodra achieved his best result in his second best career thus far at an ATP Tour Masters 1000 tournament by making the quarter finals in Madrid, with his career best being a seme-finalist at the 2010 Paris Open.

Llodra achieved his best Grand Slam singles result by making the round of 16 on four occasions: at Roland Garros in 2004 and 2008, at the 2004 US Open and at Wimbledon last year. The 31-year-old Frenchman achieved his career-high singles ranking to date of No.21 on 9 May 2011. The left-hander has won five ATP Tour singles titles with two being on grass and three on hard courts.
