Monte Carlo 2011: April 9-17

The 2011 Monte Carlo Open is the 4th MAJOR tournament of the “BIG 14″ in 2011 for the men’s professional tennis tour. This tournament celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2006 making this year the 105th edition.

This event has been held at the Monte Carlo Country Club since 1928 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in France (which borders on Monaco), even though it is said to take place in Monaco. The official name of Monte Carlo due to title sponsorship naming rights is the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters for the third straight year.

The men’s 1st round of the main draw will commence on Sunday 10 April and the qualifying event begins on Saturday 9 April. The Men’s Singles Finals will be played on Sunday 17 April.   1. Federer reached the QF in Monte Carlo.
    But in today’s rankings, no change. The 180 pts and the MC
    event are listed as a “non-countable tournament” on his
    points breakdown page. Do you know why?
    One of your early posts pointed out that he could only gain,
    since he did not play there in 2010.

    Other top 10 guys have MC in their points totals, in the Masters group.

    An aside: very odd to learn that the MC tournament, presided over by His
    Serene Highness is actually played in France !! France lets a “king” back
    into the country, and gives him a piece of France to rule over for 10 days every
    year??? This is a really nifty piece of trivia. Thanks.
