Shanghai Open 2010 Men’s 1st Round

The 2010 Shanghai Open men’s main draw singles matches began on Sunday 10 October at 6pm local time in Shanghai, China with 2 first round matches one after the other on the Centre Court. Then eight 1st round matches for Monday 11 October with the remaining 14 1st round matches to be played on Tuesday 12 October.

We will keep you updated here at OCA with the results and scores of each match and the schedule of play throughout this tournament. Only the Top 8 seeded players have a BYE in the 1st round, whilst seeds 9 to 16 must play in the 1st round. The Top 8 seeds await the 24 winners of the 1st round matches.

The official name of the Shanghai Open now that there is a new title sponsor for 2010 is the Shanghai Rolex Masters and it is the 8th of the 9 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments each year. There are still 5 remaining spots up for grabs for a number of men who could still qualify for the ATP Tour Finals and Shanghai and the Paris Open will be the decisive tournaments in sorting out who qualifies in the Top 8 spots.

Pictured above is 2009 Shanghai Open Men’s Singles quarter finalist Robin Soderling moments after making contact with the ball and his tennis racquet for this double handed backhand drive. The 26 year old from Sweden is the currently ranked at a career World No.5 is currently in prime position to qualify for one of ONLY 8 spots in ATP Tour Finals in London. Soderling made these Finals for the first time last year and made it through to the semi finals in London, he used the HEAD YouTek Radical MP and has just switched to using the HEAD YouTek Prestige MP tennis racquet.

Soderling has yet to make the singles final of an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament although he recorded his best results in these tournaments this year when he made the semi finals in both the Indian Wells Open and The Miami Open on the hard courts.

In this post all of the qualifiers have been added to the draw as well as 1 Lucky Loser – No.1 seed from the qualifying tournament Daniel Gimeno-Traver who replaced Mardy Fish who withdrew with an ankle injury.
