The 2011 Shanghai Open is officially called the Shanghai Rolex Masters due to title sponsorship naming rights. Shanghai is the 8th of the 9 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament each year. Shanghai is the only Masters 1000 tournament outside of Europe and North America each year and was the host for the ATP Tour Finals from 2005 to 2008.

The 2011 Shanghai Open is held at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center in the southwest Shanghai district of Minhang in China on Deco-turf hard courts. The Qi Zhong Stadium centre court has a 15,000 seating capacity, the total prize money for 2011 is US$ 3,240,000 and this tournament was first held in 2009.
This tournament is one of the “BIG 14” MAJOR prestigious events and runs from Saturday 8 October through to Men’s Singles Final on Sunday 16 October. The 2010 singles champion was Andy MURRAY who defeated Roger FEDERER in the final 6-3, 6-2 to win US$ 616,500 and 1,000 ATP ranking points.
