Pictured above are the singles finalists at the most recent Grand Slam tournament in 2011 Serena Williams and current US Open Grand Slam singles champion Samantha STOSUR (on the right). The 27-year-old STOSUR from Australia defeated the 13-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams in the US Open final 6-2, 6-3.

The 1.72m STOSUR has now won three of her last four matches against the former World No.1. STOSUR defeated Serena in the quarter finals of the French Open at Roland Garros in 2010, where she went on to play in her 1st Grand Slam singles final in 2010. 

STOSUR is the No.1 seed in Singapore and is currently ranked a career-best at World No.6. STOSUR is currently one of the Top 3 best prospects to achieve the World No.1 ranking for the 1st time and a favourite to win a second Grand Slam singles title in a row at the 2012 Australian Open. Don’t miss seeing STOSUR in action in Singapore! The Singapore Women’s Tennis Exhibition is being held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium for three days – Friday December 16 through to the Women’s Singles Final on Sunday December 18. The players are:

  1. No.1 seed Samantha STOSUR
  2. No.2 seed Agnieszka RADWANSKA (current World No.8)
  3. No.3 seed PENG Shuai (current World No.17)
  4. No.4 seed Flavia PENNETTA (current World No.20)
  5. No.5 seed Daniela HANTUCHOVA (current World No.24)
  6. No.6 seed Anabel MEDINA GARRIGUES (current World No.27)

The format for the Singapore women’s singles tournament pits 6 of the Top 30 ranked women in the world to compete for the Singapore tennis title. All matches are best-of-3 sets with the Top 2 seed receiving a BYE into the semi finals. The next four highest ranked players will battle it out in the quarter finals on Friday December 16 to earn the rite to challenge the Top 2 seeds for a spot in the final. The semi finals will be played on Saturday 17 December and the battle for 3rd place will be held prior to the Championship Match on Sunday 18 December.
