After defeating Sharapova 6-3, 6-4 to win her first Wimbledon title Kvitova won the WTA Finals title the first year that she qualified. The 1.82m left-hander won the WTA Finals in 2011 with an impressive 5-0 clean sweep for the WTA’s crown jewel event title. In 2013 the left-hander made the WTA Finals semifinals for a second time before falling to Li Na.
“I am so excited to qualify for the WTA Finals for the fifth straight year,” Kvitova said. “I’ve been through some tough moments this season so I’m extra proud of myself for qualifying again and making it back to Singapore. Playing as one of the Top 8 is a big goal for me each year so I can’t wait to be back there, fighting hard and hopefully playing some great tennis in front of the Singaporean fans.”
The 1.82m Kvitova has a perfect 3-0 record in singles finals this year, winning the Sydney International in January, the Madrid Open in May defeating Serena Williams 6-2, 6-3 along the way and the Connecticut Open in August. The blonde Czech has posted a 33 wins to 13 losses record in 2015 to date.
Kvitova made the semifinals at the Shenzen Open and the quarterfinals of the Italian Open. At the US Open despite being upset by eventual champion Flavia Pennetta it was her best US Open result and now has made the quarterfinals or better at all four Grand Slams.
