The 2010 Canadian Open women’s main draw singles round of 16 matches are now complete. There are 7 seeds still alive in the draw plus one direct acceptance in the quarter finals. The only remaining former Canadian Open singles champion is last weeks Cincinnati Open singles champion and defending US Open champion, Kim Clijsters.

OCA will keep you updated with all of the quarter final results as matches are completed, right here on this post. The matches numbered from No.1 to No.2 in the draw below are the matches from the top half of the draw, whilst matches No.3 to No.4 are the matches from the bottom half of the draw. All 4 matches are scheduled for today, after which the 4 semi finalists will be decided. All of these matches will be played on just 1 court, Court Central.

Pictured above is 21 year old Victoria Azarenka of Belarus just after the contact point between the ball and her racquet for this double handed backhand drive. The 1.8m Azarenka is playing in her 2nd quarter final at the Canadian Open after making the semi finals in 2008. Azarenka recently won a singles tournament on hard courts at Stanford where she moved to 4-0 up in her matches against her next opponent in Canada, Marion Bartoli.

Azarenka is currently ranked No.13 and her career high ranking is No.6. Her best results by far have been achieved on hard courts this year including her quarter final result at the Australian Open and runner-up effort at the Dubai Open. Azarenka will be looking to turn up the heat on her opponents in order to qualify for the 8-player draw in the WTA Tour Finals.

The player’s name that is bolded in the quarter singles draw below is OCA’s prediction of who will win each match. Any player whose name is italicised and has his first name removed is a seeded player who was expected to win through to the quarter finals.

The 2010 Rogers Cup in Canada quarter final draw is:

  1. (1) Jankovic (17) Marion Bartoli versus (10) Victoria Azarenka
  2. (5) Kim Clijsters v. (8) Vera Zvonareva
