The 2010 China Open women’s main draw singles quarter final matches have been completed. The No.1 and 2 seeds are on track top meet in the Women’s Singles Final and China’s Li Na continues to delight the hometown crowd. Both Li and Shahar Peer can join Wozniacki and Zvonareva in the semi finals with the opportunity to achieve career high rankings as the No.1 and 2 have done this week.
Pictured above is Shahar Peer just prior to making contact with the ball during her service motion. The 23 year old from Israel has had her best year on tour this year after achieving her career high ranking of No.14 on June 7 this year. The 1.7m Peer may surpass that by making the semi finals in Beijing. Her next opponent is Wozniacki who hurt her knee in the second set of her quarter final giving Peer added belief that this is her tournament.
Peer has played Wozniacki on 4 occasions including twice this year. Wozniacki won their first 3 matches and Peer won their most recent encounter, which was also on hard courts at the Dubai Open in straight sets 6-2 7-5. This is Peer’s third semi final in a major singles tournament this year after making the semis at the Dubai Open and the Madrid Open. Peer will be hoping it is third time lucky so that she wins through to her first ever major singles final.
OCA will keep you updated with all of the semi final results right here on this post. The player’s name that is bolded in the draw below is OCA’s prediction of who will win each match. Any player whose name is italicised and has her first name removed is a seeded player who was expected to win through to the semi finals.
