The 2010 Cincinnati Open women’s main draw singles round of 16 matches are now complete. There were some big upsets in the round of 16 with every match being won by the lower ranked player except for No.4 seed Kim Cljisters who knocked out the last American in the draw.

There are 5 seeds still in contention for this major title, yet only 1 of the Top 8 seeds. There are 3 former World No.1 players looking to work there way back up to the top spot on the WTA Tour rankings, they are Ana Ivanovic, Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova. OCA will keep you updated with all of the quarter final results as matches are completed, right here on this post. All 4 matches will be played on Centre Court.

Pictured above is 20 year old Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium about to strike the ball with this forehand ground stroke. The 1.83m Wickmayer has achieved her best result at Cincinnati by making the quarter finals and will be looking to make her first semi final of a Premier FIVE level tournament.

Wickmayer loves the hard courts and with her athleticism and height she has all of the tools to become a Top 10 player. Her earliest opportunity to do that will be through to the end of August, as last year Wickmayer made the semi finals of the US Open. Wickmayer who achieved a career best ITF Junior ranking of World No.30 next faces former World No.1 ITF Junior Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a huge opportunity for these two young players to keep climbing towards the Top 10 in the women’s game.

The player’s name that is bolded is OCA’s prediction of who will win each match. Any player whose name is italicised and has her first name removed is a seeded player who was expected to win through to the quarter finals.

The 2010 Cincinnati Women’s Open quarter final singles draw is:

  1. (1) Jankovic (Q) Akgul Amanmuradova versus Ana Ivanovic (5) Schiavone
  2. (4) Kim Clijsters v. (11) Flavia Pennetta (6) Zvonareva
  3. (8) Li (12) Yanina Wickmayer v. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (3) Dementieva
  4. (7) Radwanska (10) Maria Sharapova v. (16) Marion Bartoli (2) Wozniacki
