Indian Wells Women 2nd Round

The Indian Wells Open Women’s 1st round main draw singles matches began on Wednesday 10 March local time at Indian Wells and are now completed. In the 2nd round all of the Top 32 seeds will be playing their first match against the 2 winners of the 1st round matches.

There is a high chance that the usual one third to one quarter of the Top 32 ranked players will be defeated in the 2nd round because as always, each player has to show at each match the quality of performance necessary to win a professional tennis match.

The following is the seeding and draw for the 2nd round matches. The number in brackets before a players name is their seeding. A “Q” in brackets before their name means that player is a Qualifier. “WC” means that player received a Wild Card and “LL” means that player is a Lucky Loser.

The player’s name that is bolded is OCA’s prediction of who will win each match. Pictured above is Russian Vera Dushevina who is up against Maria Sharapova who despite expectations lost to Maria Kirilenko in the 1st round of the 2010 Australian Open.

Quite often when two Russian women player the lower ranked under dog wins the match, so Sharapova who will be looking to win Indian Wells will have to fight off her country woman in an early test of her form.
