The Miami Open women’s 3rd round main draw singles matches have now been completed with 5 of the Top 16 seeds who were drawn to make it through to the round of 16 being defeated. The round of 16 matches will commence on Monday 29 March and conclude at the end of the day’s play on Tuesday 30 March.
The following is the seeding and draw for the round of 16 matches. The number in brackets before a players name is their seeding. A “WC” in brackets before their name means that player received a Wild Card into the tournament. The player’s names that have a line drawn through them are the seeded players who were expected to play in the round of 16 but have been defeated. The names that are bolded are OCA’s predictions of who will win.
The 2010 Sony Ericsson Open Women’s Singles draw is:
- (1) Svetlana Kuznetsova versus (13) Marion Bartoli
(12) Yanina Wickmayer v. Timea Bacsinszky (8) Li Na
(3) Venus Williams v. (19) Daniela Hantuchova (16) Petrova
(10) Pennetta Andrea Petkovic v. (6) Agnieszka RadwanskaWhich is the top half of the draw & the bottom half is:
(7) Jelena Jankovic v. (9) Samantha Stosur
(14) Kim Clijsters v. (4) Victoria Azarenka
(5) Dementieva (WC) Justine Henin v. (11) Vera Zvonareva
(15) Schiavone (22) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v. (2) Caroline Wozniacki
The 4th round looks like it will provide some fiercely competitive matches with young players getting set to try to upset already established champions of the WTA Tour in Kuznetsova, Venus, Jankovic, Clijsters and Henin. The 2 unseeded players – Bacsinzky of Switzerland and Petkovic of Germany will be relishing the opportunity to upset 2 of the top young women in Wickmayer & Radwanska.
Stosur will be looking to put an end to Jankovic’s unbeaten run against her including the Indian Wells semi finals at the last tournament prior to Miami. Stosur is definitely due for a win over the 2010 Indian Wells Women’s singles champion. The 2 youngest players in the Top 10 will be especially keen to make it through to a showdown in the semi finals. Azarenka the defending champion here in Miami and Caroline Wozniacki (pictured above), are ready to add to their collection of achievements at 20 years and 19 years old respectively. Wozniacki will have to perform, as Pavlyuchenkova likes the hard courts.
