At the 2010 Miami Open the women’s round of 16 main draw singles matches have now been completed with 5 of the Top 8 seeds who were drawn to make it through to the Quarter Finals being defeated. The Quarter Finals will commence on Tuesday 30 March with the top half of the draw. The bottom half of the Quarter Final draw will be played on Wednesday 31 March.

The following is the seeding and draw for the Quarter Final matches. The number in brackets before a players name is their seeding. A “WC” in brackets before their name means that player received a Wild Card into the tournament.  The player’s names that have a line drawn through them are the seeded players who were knocked out of that section of the draw. The names that are bolded are OCA’s predictions of who will win.

The Quarter Final draw is:

  • (1) Kuznetsova (13) Marion Bartoli versus (12) Yanina Wickmayer (8) Li Na
  • (3) Venus Williams v. (6) Agnieszka Radwanska
  • (7) Jankovic (9) Samantha Stosur v. (14) Kim Clijsters (4) Azarenka
  • (5) Dementieva (WC) Justine Henin v. (2) Caroline Wozniacki

The 25 year old Bartoli from France has never played the 20 year old Wickmayer of Belgium on the WTA Tour. Bartoli pictured above having hit through the ball with her double handed backhand is on the charge having won 7 of her last 11 matches when she has been up against a Top 10 player.

Bartoli is looking for to make her first Premier Mandatory and Premier FIVE level tournament finals. Her best career result to date is when she was the runner-up at the 2007 Wimbledon Singles Championships to Venus Williams, who she may play in the semi finals at Miami.

The 29 year old Venus is in form this year playing perhaps her best match for years to defeat Victoria Azarenka in the Dubai Open final this year. Venus seems to be the player to beat as she guns for her 3rd Miami title after having an impressive start to 2010. The 7-time Grand Slam singles champion has won the last 4 matches in a row against her 21 year old opponent from Poland to lead their head to head encounters 4-1. Radwanska is chasing her first Premier Mandatory title after being a runner-up in her best previous effort (2009 China Open in Beijing).

The battle of the 26 year old’s promises to be their toughest encounter to date with the Belgian winning both of their matches to date in straight sets. Stosur snapped her losing streak against Jankovic who had beaten her 4 times in a row in straight sets including in this years semi finals at the Indian Wells Open. Stosur is at the peak of her singles career having made her first Premier Mandatory semi final at Indian Wells this year with her only other result better than the 3rd round being her quarter final (in a Premier Mandatory event), being at Miami last year.

Clijsters will be looking to out shine arch rival Justine Henin by getting past Stosur in a possible rematch. Clijsters is a dual Grand Slam champion and won Miami in 2005. The 27 year old Henin will be doing her utmost to have another shot at her fellow Belgian with 2009 US Open runner-up and World No.2 Wozniacki of Denmark in her way. Henin is a 7-time Grand Slam singles champion and will be looking to win her first title in Miami after being runner-up in 2007.

The 19 year old Wozniacki has never played Henin before and out performed her opponent in the last event on the WTA Tour by being the runner-up at Indian Wells. That was her 2nd final in a Premier Mandatory event and the youngest player in the Top 10 will be looking to improve on her best result in Miami when she made the quarter finals last year.
