Serena is playing in her 1st tournament since winning the 2010 Australian Open where she claimed her 12th Grand Slam singles title.

The 1.75m American won both Rome and the French Open in 2002 but has never fared as well since. Last year in Rome Serena lost in her 1st match against Patty Schnyder. This year all eyes will be on her to see how fit she is, how well she is moving around the court and to gauge her level of determination and desire to battle through the clay court season.
