The WTA announced on July 14 that the first team has officially qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore. Martina Hingis (Switzerland) and Sania Mirza (India) first teamed up in March this year and enjoyed immediate success winning 14 straight matches to capture three consecutive doubles titles: the Indian Wells Open, Miami Open and Charleston Open.

The 28-year-old Mirza and 35-year-old Hingis combination guaranteed their qualification for the WTA Finals in Singapore by winning the Wimbledon doubles title. For the 1.73m Mirza it was her first Grand Slam doubles title and allowed her to achieve the World No.1 of the WTA doubles ranking, making her the first Indian woman to reach No.1.

Upon qualifying the hugely successful the 1.7m Hingis who also won the 2015 Wimbledon mixed doubles title (with Leander Paes), shared some extremely valuable insight or advice about doubles success that we can all apply when on court, “Since I started playing with Sania it’s been a joy – we always keep fighting and we motivate each other.”
