Singapore WTA Finals 2015 Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova became the third singles player to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore for 2015 the WTA officially announced on September 10. The 5-time Grand Slam champion qualified for the inaugural Singapore WTA Finals in 2014 and will be playing her eighth WTA Finals (2004-2007, 2011, 2012 and 2014).

The 28-year-old Sharapova has won two titles this year: the Brisbane International and the Italian Open in Rome for a career singles title tally of 35. The Russian was the 2015 Australian Open runner-up, a Wimbledon semifinalist and made the semis at the Madrid and Acapulco Opens recording a 34 wins to 7 loss record thus far in 2015.

The 1.88m Sharapova holds a 17-10 win loss record at the WTA Finals with one WTA Finals title to her credit (2004 d. Serena Williams) and has twice been the runner-up (2007 and 2012). The right-hander’s most recent Grand Slam single title was against current World No.2 Simona Halep at Roland Garros in 2014.

Sharapova has a lot to play for in the coming month with the WTA Finals and the Fed Cup Finals for Russia. Upon qualifying for Singapore the former World No.1 said, “I have had great success at the WTA Finals in the past and I can’t wait to get back to Singapore and compete. The fans are incredible and I am looking forward to their support.”

Make sure you quickly buy your WTA Finals in Singapore tennis tickets to see Sharapova as it is suggested that three of the four days that were sold out at last year’s tournament were on the three days that Maria played!
